On encountering demons on sakura edge

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for ipod/iPad / direct streaming for PC

" We push time from us, and we wish him back; Lavish of lustrums, and yet fond of life; Life we think long, and short; death seek, and shun; Body and soul, like peevish man and wife, United jar, and yet are loth to part...Oh the dark days of vanity! while here, How tasteless! and how terrible, when gone! Gone! they ne'er go; when past, they haunt us still; "

Lounging the shores of a cold and not yet fully blooming sakura festival, Sam Renseiw encounters the personification of his two procrastination devils: meet the relaxed and the tensed afraid-type practising their stigma out-doors by clicking here or on the links above. On voodle derive in confined spaces

"...If chance plays an important role in dérives this is because the methodology of psychogeographical observation is still in its infancy. But the action of chance is naturally conservative and in a new setting tends to reduce everything to habit or to an alternation between a limited number of variants. Progress means breaking through fields where chance holds sway by creating new conditions more favorable to voodling purposes.."

Caught on a strife of almost random urban derive, Sam Renseiw retreats into an internal spatial field; View the concocted psychogeographical voodle by clicking here or on the links above. (patafilm # 764, 03'30''. 58MB, Quicktime/mov - other versions at Blip.tv)

On capturing kinetics passing by

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for ipod/ipad/iphone / direct streaming for PC

" Consciousness is in itself an act, the human act. It is a lively, full act. Even if the action which follows, which ought to have followed or should have followed, remains in suspense, the consciousness-as-act is still completely positive or kinetic..."

Just passing by: a chance encounter, a beautiful morning; a training exercise for a grand day, a moving work-load. View the kinetic poetics stretched into a longer sequence by clicking here or on the links above. (patafilm # 763, 03'30'', 74MB, Quicktime/mov - other versions at Bliptv)

On space [encore voodle]

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for ipod/iphone/ipad / direct streaming for PC
" We must constantly be on the lookout for principal actions which can produce itself “behind our backs” so to speak. Here a part is taken from reality; a way of posing reality homogenous, of considering it indivisible and accruing equal weight to all coordinates of the screen...Thus Voodles are transmissions from the depths of whoever concocted them to the depths of the viewer. To a greater extent than with any other kind of viewing, the viewer of a voodle is making that voodle, is inhabiting those images and relishing the sound[tracks] in the most personal sort of way. That doesn’t mean that you view a voodle and make it whatever you want it to be, but that it’s operating so deeply in you that it is the most special kind of viewing."

With an introductory paraphrase(d)_detournement from Andre Bazin and Kay Ryan, Sam Renseiw presents an un-cut long-shot voodle, garnished with a serendipitous soundtrack-excerpt, fitting to the long-take. On simple intermediate space voodling

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for ipod/iphone/ipad/ direct streaming for PC

" I sometimes dream of a simple hut [...] such a shelter as you would be glad to reach in a tempestuous night, containing all the essentials of a house, and nothing for house-keeping; where you can see all the treasures of the house at one view, and everything hangs upon its peg, that a man should use; at once kitchen, pantry, parlour, chamber, storehouse, and garret; where you can see so necessary a thing, as a barrel or a ladder, so convenient a thing as a cupboard, and hear the pot boil, and pay your respects to the fire that cooks your dinner, and the oven that bakes your bread, and the necessary furniture and utensils are the chief ornaments; "

Almost Walden, almost, and then better, still: a short visit to a neat retreat recorded as a cognitive, spatial perception inventory, speechless. On closing-up

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for Iphone/ipod/ipad / flash / Direct streaming for PC

" The close-up has no equivalent in a narrative fashioned of words. Literature is totally lacking in any working method to enable it to isolate a single vastly enlarged detail in which one face comes forward to underline a state of mind or stress the importance of a single detail in comparison with the rest. As a narrative device, the ability to vary the distance between the camera and the object may be a small thing indeed, but it makes for a notable difference between cinema and oral or written narrative, in which the distance between language and image is always the same."

Season Greetings with a quote from Calvino: with everybody apparently busy on facebook or elsewhere, Sam Renseiw (still) keeps on voodling short voodles to be posted on his antiquated blog. Thank you for watching to those of you still hanging around: very much obliged and grateful: click here on the image or the links above. On voodling negotiable panoramas

click for video: Quicktime / .m4v for Ipod/iphone / direct streaming for PC

"...There is a hint of complicity hovering in the air: the refinement of the taste buds and especially of the olfactory organs has its moments of weakness, of loss of class, when the cheeses on their platters seem to proffer themselves as if on the divans of a brothel. A perverse grin flickers in the satisfaction of debasing the object of one's own gluttony with lowering nicknames: crottin, boule de moine, bouton de calotte.[...]The elaborate and greedy order that he intended to make momentarily slips his mind; he stammers; he falls back on the most obvious, the most banal, the most advertised, as if the automatons of mass civilisation were waiting only for this moment of uncertainty on his part in order to seize him again and have him at their mercy..."

Paraphrasing Calvino- somehow cheesyly, Sam Renseiw proceeds to amalgamate footage from three recently visited installations/performances, creating a peculiar spatial mash-up with appended soundtrack.
